Lydia & Jo’s Skydive
We’re so glad that you’re here.
We (Lydia & Jo) are preparing for our first ever skydive (eek!) and we’re excited to make this count for the thousands of Congolese that will regain their sight through the free eye care provided by New Sight Care.
I (Lydia) met Doug and Annabel Targett last year when they were preparing to move to the Congo with their three children to support the founders of New Sight Care, Joyce Samoutou-Wong and Henri Samoutou, with their mission to restore sight to as many blind and visually impaired as possible.
4 in 5 people in the world who are blind suffer from eye conditions which are either preventable or treatable. In the UK for example, 330,000 cataracts procedures are conducted every year, usually through the NHS; a straightforward procedure that usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.
The Republic of Congo however, with a population of over 5 million, had no resources to provide eye surgery, meaning many were suffering needlessly from blindness and visual impairment; affecting families, communities and the wider economy. Seeing the need, New Sight Care was launched in 2012 and has since provided accessible and comprehensive eye care to 30,000 people in the Congo. Looking forward, New Sight is training local health workers and educating communities on eye care, as well as building a new eye hospital in the town of Ouesso.
Jo and I decided to do something to support this wonderful mission (in the form of jumping out of a plane) and hope that you will join us in accelerating the work of this amazing charity and in doing so, change the lives of thousands more to come.
Thank you so much for your support!
